ABOUT THE SCULPTURE

The German ceramicist Wanda Stehr’s artwork with 13 white balls placed on a rope has neither title – nor colours. This is quite intentional because Stehr does not want to put words into anyone’s mouth as the spectators should be allowed to give thought to ideas and feelings based on their individual experience of the artwork. The lack of colours allows the spectators to “paint” their own colours into the work.

It is always difficult to experience without associations. Most people may first come to think about beads on a string. The infinite shape of the circle allows us to move easily from one beautiful bead to the next, all the way round. The solid rope may create images of strong sailors at sea tying durable knots. The rope can meet various challenges. At the same time, there is something strong and delicate in the expression of the sculpture. And perhaps something maritime? Perhaps you will experience something completely different.
