ABOUT THE SCULPTURE

Opulent in its expression, with lavishly dripping glazes and extravagant colour combinations, there is a touch of flower power and nostalgia in Matt Wedel’s sculpture. Yet, there is no doubt that we face something entirely new.

Matt Wedel himself compares the sculpture to the Tree of Life and says that it is the expression of a philosophical outpouring that has not yet occurred. This leaves Flower Tree to be experienced as the beginning of something new or a return to all that was long ago – before man, society, and culture.

The aim is to loosen up some of the rigid structures of everyday life and the square boxes we tend to use as guidelines. As if the sculpture says: Let go – you only live once!
