ABOUT THE SCULPTURE

The Norwegian ceramicist Ingrid Askeland often models an oversize beer bottle and uses it as a canvas for her meticulously drawn objects.

On this oversize beer bottle she has created an almost surreal, dystopian universe. A landscape featuring cartoonish animals, a human being on a treadmill without getting anywhere, drones being attacked by a bird of prey, and a chicken turned into a monster. The very picture of delirium.

It all takes place under a caravan – the symbol of a cozy, traditional Danish family vacation. The artist tells us that the caravan is like the one she lived in during her stay at Tommerup Ceramic Workcenter while creating the artwork for the exhibition Grand Designs – Clever Hands at CLAY. This exhibition celebrated the center’s 30th anniversary.
