ABOUT THE SCULPTURE

The red hemisphere shows that the bricks we typically associate with traditional houses may be something else and more than just that. The ceramicist Søren Thygesen focuses on the brick as a material and its possibilities. The red brick has been soft and easy to shape before it became a hard and square building brick. These are exactly the contrasts to be experienced in the encounter with the artwork.

The sculpture shows a kind of organic growth in a frozen state. Perhaps, there is something that would like to break free and move – like in a pregnant belly.

Thygesen wanted to create something which could be useful in architectural contexts. In principle, the artwork can be built into ordinary walls or be used in tiled pavements.
